The Coalition of Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations for Elections (CECOE) was founded in 2019 to augment and coordinate the role of Ethiopian civil society in election observation, monitoring, voter education, and preventing post-electoral conflicts. Today the coalition brings together about 175 member organizations and consortiums from across Ethiopia.
CECOE was the first civil society organization invited by the National Election Board of Ethiopia to observe the Sidama referendum (November 2019, deploying 147 short-term observers), established a national election data center for the June 2021 general elections, and has been recognized by international observers as the most prominent CSO election-monitoring organization in the country.
Its core programmes are civic and voter education, advocacy and stakeholder engagement, election monitoring and observation, and research and capacity building. Partners and donors include GIZ, NDI, USAID, Irish Aid, Denmark, France, IRI, ECES, the European Union and NIMD. Contact: info@cecoe.org · +251 11 811 1455 · @cecoeeth.
